New Memory Program - Music and Memory
Lincoln Glen is proud to announce Music and
Memory, a new program for residents of the Nursing facility and those who live in Sunshine Alley, our newest facility for
residents who have memory impairments. Lincoln Glen activities staff have been trained
and certified to "set up personalized music playlists, delivered on
iPods, for residents in our care. These
musical favorites tap deep memories not lost to dementia and can
bring participants back to life, enabling them to feel like
themselves again, to converse, socialize and stay present."
Music
and Memory's work is "rooted in extensive neuroscience research. The
results can be nothing short of miraculous."
Here's what NPR Science Friday has to say:
"Why do musical memories linger long after other memories have faded? That question is at the heart
of a new documentary, Alive Inside, which looks at the effects of music on people living with
Alzheimer’s and other age-related dementias. Film subjects Oliver Sacks and Dan Cohen explain
why music acts as a backdoor to memory and share tips for enjoying music with the elders in your
life.

Note: We plan to expand
Music and Memory to the Assisted Living Facility in
the future. Our long-term goal is to have iPods for
all residents in the Nursing Facility, Memory Care
(Sunshine Alley) and the Assisted Living Facility.
